a.P.A.t.T. / Peepholes

This split release from Upset The Rhythm features DIY pop duo Peepholes and Liverpudlian collective a.P.A.t.T. The lo-fi ruckus created by Peepholes is instantly lovable. Katia Barrett and Nick Carlisle switch between synth and drums, sharing the vocal duties as they go. The six tracks collected here are tons of fun too, sailing through fourtrack-recorded, beaten-up tunes like "Airforce Trainer" and the Animal Collective-worthy "Alpine Song". After all this a.P.A.t.T. sound truly insane. "Candlelight" sounds like something that might have mutated from a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta, while "10 Downing Street" is like a James Ferraro interlude that cleanses the palette prior to comedy-country nightmare "Taxi Driver". There are eight tracks from these guys and at no point can you really guess what's coming next. As split releases go, this has to be one of the more surreal pairings to emerge for a while.
